My mom steamed some blue crabs for me and handed them over in two one-gallon Ziplock bags. I’ve always loved crab — even growing up — and while some people say it’s a pain to get the meat, I find it oddly satisfying. Cracking them open, working for the little chunks… it’s a quiet kind of ritual.
Growing up, we usually dipped crab in a fish sauce mix or a simple pepper and lime combination. But this time, I wanted something different — something buttery, warm, and full of flavor.
So I made a garlic butter sauce.
It’s incredibly simple, but somehow it made the whole experience feel extra satisfying.
I used this sauce for about 6–7 crabs.
Garlic Butter Sauce
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- A light sprinkle of garlic powder (for extra flavor)
Mix everything together and that’s it.
If you prefer a thicker sauce, you don’t need to melt the butter all the way — just soften it and stir.
There’s something comforting about combining a couple of staple ingredients and ending up with something that feels just right. Simple things have a way of making the biggest difference.
Sometimes the most memorable meals are the simplest ones.
